The 5 BEST rom coms you didn’t know existed

You get recommended movies left and right by family, friends and all sorts of media. Well I’m here to tell you exactly what to watch and why and you can thank me for it later.

5.)Just Married (2003)

Image from the MovieDataBase. Starring Ashton Kutcher and Brittany Murphy

The movies about characters Tom and Sarah. Sarah comes from a wealthy background with a family that doesn’t approve of Tom. Yet they still get married and go on a honeymoon together that becomes a complete disaster full of bad luck. So as expected the couple breaks up after this. The question is, does Sarah go back to her ex and follow the plan her parents always wanted for her and marry him? Or does she go back to Tom and the couple lives happily ever after?

I rate this movie an 8/10 (See below for 10/10 ratings!)… The reason I do is that it is a bit dated, and follows a classic plot line. The debate over the ex that your parents want or the crazy person you fell in love with is a classic problem but other than that being the basics, it was such a cute and simple rom com that I’d highly reccomend over the other classics!

The movies about Viola Hastings, a soccer player that is at a school where the womens team is cut, so her solution is pretending to be her twin brother, Sebastian at a boarding school. She becomes roommates with the soccer star, Duke where she bonds with him over the girl that he’s interested in, Olivia. However Olivia is interested in Sebastian not realzing Sebastian is actually a girl. So Duke becomes jealous, Olivia gets obessessive and meanwhile Viola is falling in love with Duke while still in a mans body. When Sebastian returns to school, disaster strikes and Viola has to recover from the loads of emotions that have hit her.

I rate this movie a 100/10! If you have never seen it, you are going to be so happy when you finally do. It’s hilarious and a complete mess but overall suchhh a good movie. The only reason I put it 4th on my list is that the other 3 movies fit better with the modern world and todays society.

3.) The Idea of You (2024)

Image from MovieDateBase. Starring Anne Hathaway and Nicholas Galitzine

This movie popped up when I was scrolling through Amazon Prime for a rom com that would distract me from reality. I found this one and I couldn’t believe that it has just came out 2 years ago and I hadn’t seen or heard of it before. So I turned it on and it did exactly what I was looking for, fully invest me!

This movies about a mom, Solene who is coming up on 40 years old. She is divorced and shares a daughter with the man named Daniel. When Daniel cancels on a trip with their daughter, planning to see boy band August Moon, Solene accidentally runs into the lead singer Hayes Campbell. Immediately the two of them have chemistry but is the media going to be too much for them? They have an age gap of 16 years, what will the world think? Do they continue an undeniable relationship or leave it behind them?

I rate this movie 100/10. I would rate it higher if it didn’t mean I got judged for the whole age gap situation in it. Personally I though that the characters seemed so perfect together that it didn’t bother me, in fact I forgot it was there most of the time. This is absolutely a movie worth your time.

2.) Hit Man (2024)

This movie throws in crime to a rom com. Making it the perfect unique twist to entertain you. I’m someone who loves a good mystery, and I’m someone that never picks to watch action but ends up liking it after watching an action movie. So when I tell you this movie checked off all the boxes, it truly did! I also think it’d be the perfect one to watch with a boyfriend, it’s not the classic girly rom com, it’s nothing but amusment and entertainment.

It’s about a character Gary, who is a college professor who works undercover with the police. However when a fellow detective is unable to pretend to be a hit man for people. Gary must take over the role despite his personality lacking to fit anything about being a hitman. During an operation he meets a woman named Madison, who wants her abusive husband killed. Gary forgets about his job of arresting Madison for hiring a hitman though and falls in love with her. So after Gary gives Madison money to start a new life her husband is still found dead after everything and it reveals a huge hidden truth. This movie has so many twist and turns to keep you on your toes yet root for Gary and Madison who are in love.

I rate this movie a 1000/10. I couldn’t predict this movie at all, it was so good and even through all the craziness, still had a cute love story. I seriosuly could not reccomend this enough, you have to go watch it! I don’t rate it 1 simply for the fact that it doesn’t strictly follow under a rom com, it is more crime rom com.

1.) Crazy Stupid Love (2011)

Image from TheMovieDataBase. This stars Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone, Steve Carell and Julianne Moore.

When I first looked at the pictures of this I though it would be a movie with multiple different stories that don’t correlate. In fact I tried watching it a few years back and was bored with it because I thought it was just seperate stories the whole time. But little did I know they all came together in the most insane of ways. This movies ending is hilarious and fully worth watching the wntire time besides just the end.

It’s about a middle aged man, Cal who’s wife, Emily wants a divorce after cheating on him. The divorce is all Cal can talk about to the point that he is known at his local bar for wheeping about it every night. Eventually the two of them are pulling woman left and right. That is until Cal realizes that he’s still thinking about his wife and Jacob is caught up on the girl that approached him for once. Both leaning towards relationships now, Cal and Jacob end up meeting again in the most unexpected of ways.

I rate this movie a 1000/10. It has me laughing out loud at times and it’s honestly a really sweet story even though what happens and everything going on is just crazy.
